It’s time for the English to rise up and celebrate their birthright and diversity. What better way to do it than with a Banquet with a delicious menu of locally sourced, traditional recipes and delightful, if somewhat idiosyncratic, English entertainment.
Guests are requested to arrive at 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm start. The evening will start with a welcome drink before joining guests at the banqueting table. Throughout the meal there will be readings from some of our celebrated English writers such as Shakespeare and Wordsworth.
This painting is of a wedding banquet, by Breughel.
There will be a short, topical after dinner speech by local MP, Chris Huhne.
This will be followed by some traditional, historic entertainment dating back to time immemorial: Morris Dancing and a Mummers’ Play. There will be an opportunity for audience participation.
The evening will end with the Choir from Wildern School singing the old favourites such as "Land of Hope and Glory", "Jerusalem" and other rousing songs from the Proms.
Tickets cost £29.95 per head. We are grateful to Hedge End Town Council for running our tickets agency for us.
