If neither Thursday's Banquet nor Friday's Regency Ball is for you, there must be something in our Saturday programme which appeals to you. You might even want to join us on all three days of our celebration.
The main focus of activity during the day will be at the Hedge End's Wildern School, with some events in the centre of the Village. From 2.30 pm the focus moves to the Falconry Display, followed at 3.00 pm by the Jousting Tournament at the recreation ground at Woodhouse Lane. In the evening the focus moves to the Barn Dance at The Village Hall.
A horse-drawn bus will be available to transport people between the Village Centre and Wildern School until mid-afternoon. From then on it will be conveying people between the School and Woodhouse Lane. For enquiries on the bus, telephone 07799 33511.
Market with Entertainments
There will be a local market selling craft goods and food, mainly at Wildern School, with some in the Village Centre. We are also organising open-air entertainments which you come and enjoy for no charge. Here are some of the acts we have already lined up:
Chequered Flag - Appalachian dance team
King John's Morris - Morris dance team.
Feckless - SE England's ultimate party band. You can hear them here.
If you wish to take part in the entertainment (we don't have any jugglers or breakdancers yet) or organise a food or craft stall please contact the Dragon@StGeorgeFest.org.uk.
Children's Dragon Painting Competition
Outline drawings for a children's painting are being circulated widely, including being enclosed in the next issue of The Hedge End Gazette. If you have not received one already, ask at the HETC Office. BellaCrafts, who are taking part in the craft market, are donating 3 craft hampers as prizes. They will be filled with children's crafts and materials.
There is a charge of 50p per entry - takings going to The Mayor's Charity. They should be handed in by 11.30 am at the Craft Market and will be put on display there. Winners will be announced on the day.
Traditional Music Session
The Hedge End Club in Bursledon Road have agreed to host a traditional music session between 11.00 am and 2.30 pm, in the company of members of the Woolston and Bursledon Folk Club. All are welcome. If you can play an instrument, or can sing, then join in; otherwise come and listen and enjoy the "craic".
Traditional Stories and Rhymes
Hedge End Library is hosting two story/rhyme times for under 8s; one from 10.15 am to 10.45 am and the other from 12 noon to 12.30 pm. No need to book but numbers will be limited to 30 children on the day due to space restrictions. Parents/Carers to remain with your children please.
Guided Walks
Join us at 2.00 pm for a guided walk round Hedge End. £2 per head - pay on arrival.
Jousting Tournament and Falconry
In the late afternoon the focus moves from Wildern School to Woodhouse Lane. The horse bus will be available to transport some people between the two venues, but places on the horse bus will be limited. There is a charge for admission and spectators will be able to watch both events.
Falconry
The Falconers will be at Woodhouse Lane at the same time as the Jousting Tournament. There will be flying demonstrations during breaks in the jousting. The first flying demonstration will be at 2.30 pm.
Jousting Tournament
We are lucky to have secured the services of The Knights of Merry England for the main event of the afternoon. The show starts at 3.00 pm at Woodhouse Lane and there will be a falconry demonstration during the break. They have been running very professional displays for many years and are not to be missed.
Come and see the show - you will not be disappointed.
Barn Dance with a Difference
The closing event is a Barn Dance to be held in the Village Hall between 7.30pm to 11.30pm. We have lined up a band called Rocas, with a caller. They are young, vibrant group, all in their 20s with a lively mixture of contemporary and traditional music. They met through University and are based in Brighton. The difference is that we shall have a few entertainments to amuse us during breaks in the dancing. The St George Fest draw will be made in aid of The Mayor's Charity and we will finish in traditional English fashion with "Auld Lang Syne". £5 per head - families £15.
